Labor Day workout

Today was forms day. I decided that when I went in this morning that I would just do forms for an entire hour plus. So I did P1-7 five times with nothing in between. At one point I was feeling pretty light headed and I was worried. So I made a quick sandwich to be sure I did not pass out.

I then completed 3 reps of my testing form with very good results. So the rest of my day is already feeling good. I have to get that movement in for me to have a good day. When I miss that or skip it, the rest of my day suffers.

Now my next task is to work on the project of The 6 Most Dangerous Trends Facing our Children Today. My coach wants to see it get to 70% complete NOW. I have most of the information together and it is really a matter of organization. I am looking forward to presenting this material soon.

Return to workouts

I have just returned from a trip to Kenya that for some reason I have not written here about.  I am just getting my feet under me from this trip.  Here is the point of this post.  After 2 weeks of virtually no physical activity I am really paying the price.  I worked out on Thursday and then again on Friday and did not have the stamina I had before I went on this hiatus.

Consistency is so important in our training.  In my weight training again I was much weaker than before.  If we want to stay strong we have to be consistent.  So I am back to a regular schedule of training.  On Friday with very little time with my training partners, Mary, Russell and Mark we used the one hour we had to go through all of our basics.  We did not do the kicking combination, or all of our under belt forms – though we did complete our testing form 3 times.  Good workout. Yes I am sore and looking forward to the Saturday morning workout.

Intensity and teamwork was key to great week

This week was simply amazing for our physical workouts.  Everyone learned a little bit more about themselves if they chose to do so.  My knee was feeling better, and I am very happy to know that there is no major issues in the knee.  There may be a small tear, but the inflammation can be controlled.

I have opened myself to working very closely with some of our more advanced students.  When I say that I mean that they have been open to working with me.  In fact it has been a very real team effort.  Sharing / Teamwork is key to the advancement of every student, including myself.

Testing is different now

It is Sunday morning and this has been a great week of activity and some not so great stuff.  I had a very busy week at the beginning of the week and did not get any practice time in, less weight training and sticks.  By Thursday I was able to get a workout in and again on Friday.  Both of them were some of the best we have had.

Friday was a very special day.   Read more »

Consistent practice needed

Today was the first day since Saturday that I have worked out except for my weight training on Monday and Wednesday.  My head was not really there at the beginning, and I think a lot of that had to do with just not having done it for that long a period of time.

I have to keep on a consistent schedule of working out or it is very easy for me to slack off.  So when students feel like that – I understand it.  But we got going this morning with some BJJ and we worked on the sweep from the mount.  It went very well.

I did get 190 push ups in today, but my forms were not there best.  It is all about consistent practice.  I am also working on inspiring others to workout more than their 2 times a week.  I know it will make a difference for all of them.

Today’s workout included:  heels on the ball work, sets, under belt forms, BJJ, TKD sparring, stretch kicks.  Tomorrow will be another light workout and Saturday will be a better one.
